A Heart Set on Providing a Home

In 2018, Vicky had begun working with Mni Sota Fund with the goal of purchasing a home. When Vicky first started out, she came in with little understanding of her personal credit, or what her score was. Yet, during that time she put in tremendous work to gain that knowledge. She learned how to increase and maximize the benefits of using credit while saving money. Vicky was then able to utilize a Mni Sota Fund Credit Enhancement Loan to pay off medical collections and improve her overall credit score.

Vicky applied for Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program, and was approved. She quickly realized after getting approved, that getting through the remaining obstacles was going to be difficult and ongoing support was going to be needed. She experienced barriers and obstacles that kept setting her back. Feeling discouraged, Vicky was honestly ready to give up at times. However, with the support of Mni Sota Fund over these past four years she’s been able to persevere through those many obstacles along the way, especially after being told “that the time may not be right for her to purchase now”

Vicky never gave up.

She’d continued to pursue her goal of new homeownership and succeed and feel empowered by her own financial freedom. This gave her a sense of new found confidence to push through the difficult process. Vicky continued to meet with Mni Sota Fund’s financial coaches and housing counselor’s on a monthly basis to build out action plans that kept her on task towards reaching her end goal. She stuck to her plan and her coach helped her stay on track with her financial goals. Vicky was able to reduce her spending and grow her savings while boosting her credit score by over 151 points!

As a single parent to five children, Vicky had her heart set on providing her family with a home and as of 2022, her goals finally became a reality and is now in a new home with her family. It’s been a long road since she first started out in 2018.

Vicky never gave up on her family, and Mni Sota Fund never gave up on believing in her.

Congrats to The Ontiveros Family

Working with Andrea and Amber, who were supportive and caring, I want to say thank you to them, for all the support they provided in this long process, and for never giving up on me and my family.
